Fire Alarms & Defibrillator Accessibility

Emergencies don’t discriminate, but too often, our systems do. Many deaf individuals or those with hearing loss face barriers during critical moments.

Take defibrillator boxes in the UK. Most require a “999” call to access the PIN code. But how can someone deaf or unable to make calls get the code to save a life?

Similarly, many fire alarms rely solely on sound, leaving deaf people unaware of the danger. Without visual alerts or text notifications, lives are at risk.

We urgently need better systems—visual alarms, live chat apps, and inclusive tools that work for everyone. No one should be excluded from safety during a fire or a life-saving moment.
