📢 When Branding Doesn’t Match Reality: Why Transparency Matters in AI Accessibility

Updated: Aug 18

There’s a troubling trend in sign language accessibility:

🚩 Companies release videos claiming “AI-driven BSL translation was seamlessly integrated...”But behind the scenes? It was human translators doing the work.

Then suddenly, marketing shifts. Terms like “AI” and “Deaf” start disappearing from messaging. Why? To dodge accountability?

This isn’t just branding. It’s about trust.

💬 Our communities deserve honesty:

  • If it's human translation, say so.

  • If AI is involved, be specific about where and how.

  • Don’t water down the truth with vague language or euphemisms.

We rely on this tech for access to education, public services, and critical information.

We need transparent, ethical practices that respect both Deaf professionals and the role of emerging tech.

Let’s build trust through clarity, not clever spin.

👉 Hold brands accountable.

👉 Centred lived experience.

👉 Demand truth in accessibility.
