šŸ†˜ Seeking Advice & InformationSupport for Deaf Asylum Seekers in the UK šŸ†˜

I’ve noticed a significant gap between the support available for Deaf Refugees and Deaf Asylum Seekers, and I’m reaching out for insights from anyone with knowledge or experience in this area.

šŸ”¹ Deaf Refugees often have access to direct payments and remote interpreting (e.g. VRS) via local councils.

šŸ”ø Deaf Asylum Seekers, however, seem excluded from the same essential services

āž”ļø No direct payments

āž”ļø No access to interpreting support or VRS

This gap creates serious barriers for Deaf Asylum Seekers trying to access:

  • Healthcare

  • Legal representation

  • Basic services

  • Community support

šŸ‘‰ I’d appreciate help understanding:

ā“ Why does this gap exist?

šŸ¤ Are any organisations actively supporting Deaf Asylum Seekers?

āš–ļø Is there a legal framework, policy, or funding route that applies here?

šŸ“£ How can we advocate for equal access and inclusion?

šŸ“© Please comment, DM, or tag someone who might know more.

I’m keen to listen, learn, and take meaningful action.

This is a human rights issue, and we need inclusive solutions.

Thank you for reading and supporting.
