Part 4: Call to Action – Listen, Act, and Include

Updated: 5 days ago

Accessibility is not a luxury- it is a legal, ethical, and human responsibility.

ACCESSIBILITY IS NOT OPTIONAL. People with 'LISTEN', 'ACT', 'INCLUDE' signs and legal pillars.
  • BSL Act 2022: Recognises BSL as a language of England, Wales, and Scotland. Public services must integrate BSL in their communications.

  • Equality Act 2010: Mandates reasonable adjustments in employment and services.

  • Accessible Information Standard: Requires health and social care providers to deliver information in formats Deaf users can actually access.

Yet, the Deaf community still waits. We wait for interpreters, accessible TV, workplace adjustments, and recognition. Companies and agencies prioritise profit or convenience over equity. We are asking for nothing extraordinary—just the right to be included, informed, and heard.

The message is clear: stop treating Deaf accessibility as optional. Listen to the community. Fund professional interpreters alongside AI. Make sign language available anywhere, anytime, and for everyone.

The UK can lead by example, but only if decision-makers choose action over words.
