🧏♀️ "Enough is enough — it’s time to stop ignoring the Deaf community." 🧏♂️

I'm from Coventry and Warwickshire, and after watching all the episodes of the BBC drama Reunion, I’ve been thinking deeply about the ongoing discrimination Deaf people still face — in healthcare, prisons, schools, and daily life.
Many in our community have shared frustration with poor services like LanguageLine, and sadly, it’s still happening:
🔸 A 16-year-old girl was forced to interpret for her dying mother — no BSL interpreter was provided.
🔸 Deaf people in prisons face huge inequality.
🔸 Deaf students lack support in schools.
🔸 Healthcare professionals often don’t understand or meet BSL access needs.
These stories are not just about me — they’re about all of us.
I believe it could be powerful to create a yearly event, like Healthwatch does in some areas, where Deaf community members and professionals come together to:
✔️ Share challenges and ideas
✔️ Raise awareness locally
✔️ Push for real change

The ITV drama on the Post Office scandal showed how real stories can influence the public and lead to justice. Maybe sharing our stories — Deaf stories — can help do the same.
🗣️ During the BSL Act debate, the Minister clearly said Deaf people must be involved in committees. Let’s make sure that happens, in Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond.
⏰ Time is now. I hope others will pick up this idea and move it forward — for the future of our community.
