Bi-directional? Multi-directional? Why Inclusive Tech Can’t Be One-Way. 🔁

We often talk about tools like “Sign to Audio” or “Text to Sign” as if they’re standalone solutions.
But in real life, especially in Deaf/hearing spaces, communication isn’t one-way.
✅ It’s not just bi-directional (back and forth)...
🧭 It’s multi-directional: people signing, speaking, and texting sometimes all at once.
That’s why I believe the future of inclusive communication tech should look more like a modular system, not isolated tools.
Something like:
🔁 Sign to Audio
🔁 Audio to Sign
🔁 Text to Sign
🔁 Sign to Text
We shouldn’t have to choose a single “pathway.”
Instead, let’s build access by design, where users choose how they want to communicate — in real time, across contexts, and on their terms.
I’m not coding the tech, but I’m deeply invested in the conversation.
If you’re working in this space — as a Deaf person, CODA, interpreter, technologist, or ally — I’d love to hear your thoughts.
💬 What would a truly multi-modal, multi-directional communication system look like to you?
